HOCKEYTOWN, USA – Your youngest Bulldog team traveled up north this past weekend to play The Ursa Major. They returned home as undefeated champions. The Bulldogs made it tough on themselves as they let a two goal lead get away from them in the opener against the Northern Express and finished in a tie, 2-2.

Silver Stick Regional Champs - 16UAA
What happens when a group of hockey players come together as a team? They win championships as did our Midget Minor AA team this past weekend.
The team posted on a perfect 4-0 record to finish first in the qualifying round of the tournament. To get there, the team started with a convincing 6-1 victory to open the weekend. However, it would seem that a little overconfidence would get the team in trouble during the second game where they found themselves trailing 2-0 at the beginning of the 3rd period. None the less, the team would regain their composer and score early on a short handed goal. This would fire up the team and they would score and unprecedented 3 goals in 2 minutes to put the game away.
The second game victory would put wind in the team's sails and they would play their best game to date by shutting out their opponent with a 3-0 win in the 3rd game. The fourth game victory of 2-1 did not come easy as the players were no doubt starting to feel the fatigue from their first 3 games.
Off to the semi final against the opponent they shutout 3-0 in the qualifying round. This one would not be much different and the team would dominate with a 4-1 win to move on to the championship.
The Championship would give the fans gathered at Farmers Branch an exciting hockey game from start to finish. The opponent would put the first score on the board and Alliance would tie it up shortly after. The Bulldogs would score what would turn out to be the game winner late in the second with an unsuspecting shot from just inside the blue line leaving the goalie standing still and the puck in the top shelf. With true form to the weekend's theme of team play, effort and discipline, the Bulldogs would seal the final victory to become CHAMPIONS!

The official hosts and sites for the 2009 USA Hockey National Championships were announced today by USA Hockey, and the Alliance Youth Hockey Association (AYHA) of Dallas, Texas has been selected to host the 14 & Under Bantam Tier I and Tier II Championships in Frisco, Texas April 1-5, 2009.
It will be the first time a Tier I USA Hockey National Championship has been held in Texas, and only the second championship ever held in the Lone Star State. The 17U Tier II Championship was held in Frisco in April 2004.
In typical Alliance form, the winning proposal to host the championships was a team accomplishment. The Alliance Executive Board would like to thank the Dallas Stars, Dr. Pepper StarCenters, Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) for their efforts and support during the 4-month process to prepare and submit the winning proposal and presentation.
Sixteen (16) organizations submitted proposals, and then made presentations to the USA Hockey Youth Council at the Annual Congress in Colorado Springs back in June. Once the finalists were determined, USA Hockey officials made site visits to each city for additional interviews and meetings.
For each tier (I & II), 12 teams (Eleven District Champions along with an Alliance host team) will gather in Frisco to determine a National Champion for the 14&Under Bantam Division. A total of 24 teams from all across the United States will be participating in the championships at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter Frisco.
With the Championships only 11 months away, there is plenty to do right away, as the event will require a significant amount of volunteer effort and planning. More information will be posted in the future, regarding the opportunities to be involved in the hosting of this prestigious event.
