Another former Alliance player has gone NCAA Division I, this time it’s an original Bulldog, and she’s a Lady one at that.
Dru Burns (1991) has just signed a National Letter of Intent to play hockey with the Eagles of Boston College beginning in the 2009-2010 season.
Dru is currently a senior at Shattuck Saint Mary’s (SSM) in Faribault, Minnesota, where she is a defenseman on their Girls Prep (19U) team, which is 24-4-2 thus far in the 2008-2009 season.
Dru was a member of the inaugural Alliance Squirt A team during the 2001-2002 season, and played for Alliance for 5 seasons, her last being with the 2005-2006 14U Bantam AAA Tier I squad.
She then went on to play all-girls hockey full time in 2006-2007, when she was a member of the SSM Prep (19U) team that went 54-2-1 and won it’s 3rd consecutive USA Hockey 19U National Championship.
Due to her success on the ice and in the classroom, Dru was afforded many choices to consider when making her decision of where to go to college and play hockey, and chose Boston College because of their strong academic heritage and her desire to be challenged academically as well as athletically.
Dru was the top recruit for 2nd year Boston College Head Coach Katie King, herself an accomplished student while playing hockey at Brown University, as well as being a 3-time USA Hockey Olympian.
While at BC, Dru will be challenged on the ice as well as the classroom, as she will also be tutored by Eagle Defensive Coach Courtney Kennedy, a 2-time All American Defenseman for the Minnesota Gophers, and a 2-time USA Hockey Olympian as well.
With their current 2008-2009 team record at 9-3-3, the Eagles look to be in contention for another run at the Frozen Four in 2009, where they competed just 2 seasons ago in 2007. Next year they will be adding their first player from Texas in Burns, complementing their currently diverse roster which is comprised of 22 players from 12 different states.
An annual regular at the USA Hockey National Select Festivals, Dru has experienced many accomplishments on the ice and off during her career, and becomes the 7th former Alliance player to play or commit to an NCAA Division I program.
Congratulations to Dru, her 4 sisters, brother, and especially to her proud parents Christine and David.
Go Bulldogs and Go Eagles!

HOCKEYTOWN, USA – Your youngest Bulldog team traveled up north this past weekend to play The Ursa Major. They returned home as undefeated champions. The Bulldogs made it tough on themselves as they let a two goal lead get away from them in the opener against the Northern Express and finished in a tie, 2-2.
