Another former Alliance player has joined the Junior ranks, as Cooper Frederick ('89), one of the backstops for the inaugural Alliance 18U Midget Major AAA team for the 2007-2008 season, was tendered by the Topeka Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Copper joins Matt Shost and Michael Hill in the first group of Bulldogs to receive tenders.
Last year was the first season for Cooper as a Bulldog, having spent the previous few seasons as a part of the Colorado Thunderbird program in Colorado Springs. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Frederick has been one of the top netminders in the country for quite some time, having become a familiar face at the annual USA Hockey National Festivals and Development Camps.
He joins a Junior program that is coming off quite a successful 2007-2008 campaign, as the Roadrunners won the NAHL South Division Championship, a division that includes the Texas Tornado and the Wichita Falls Wildcats. They made it all the way to the Robertson Cup Semi-Finals before falling to Mahoning Valley.
Cooper becomes the ninth (9th) Alliance player to either be tendered or drafted into either the NAHL or USHL this year, bringing the total number of former Bulldogs who have played or are playing Junior hockey to thirty nine (39) in the first 7 seasons of Alliance hockey.
Congratulations to Copper and Good Luck next season!
