HOCKEYTOWN, USA – Your youngest Bulldog team traveled up north this past weekend to play The Ursa Major. They returned home as undefeated champions. The Bulldogs made it tough on themselves as they let a two goal lead get away from them in the opener against the Northern Express and finished in a tie, 2-2.

The Bulldogs 2nd game was played at Yost Arena, home of the Michigan Wolverines. The Bulldogs needed a power play goal with 1:30 left in the 3rd period to escape with another 2-2 tie against the Grosse Pointe Bulldogs. The Bulldogs found some offense in the 3rd game winning easily 5-1 over the Redford Royals.

With one game remaining in pool play, the Bulldogs were 1-0-2 (4 pts) and needed to win their final game to qualify for the finals. Their final pool game was against the Geneva Cyclones. The Cyclones ripped through their first three pool games going 3-0. This undersized Bulldog team was not intimidated by the size of the Cyclones. The Bulldogs came out aggressive and hitting. The Bulldogs earned a two goal lead and survived the 3rd period coming away with a 2-1 victory.

The championship game would be a rematch with the Geneva Cyclones. The Cyclones controlled play during the scoreless 1st and 2nd periods. The Bulldogs survived those first two periods on tilted ice. Much of the 3rd period was also played on ice tilted the Cyclone way. With 2:10 left in the 3rd period, the Bulldogs scored. The Bulldogs fans went crazy. Shortly after the puck dropped, the Bulldogs picked up a penalty, and the Cyclones would be on the power play for the remainder of the game. The Cyclones charged; the Bulldogs battled. With their goalie pulled, the Cyclones had a 2 man advantage and they used it. The puck bounced around the crease and with 10 seconds remaining, a Bulldog hammered the puck down the ice. Game over. Bulldogs 1 – Cyclones 0.

The Bulldogs finished with 3 wins and two ties (no losses). For the first time this season, the Bulldogs have a streak.  They’ve played 7 consecutive games without a loss. They next play DJHA on Sunday in league play.

How ‘bout dem Bulldogs!!
